Christian-centered counseling

Faith and real therapy, in the same room

The same evidence-based care, with your faith as part of the work rather than something you leave at the door. Prayer and Scripture are welcome when you want them. I will never assume them.

60 minutes, $180 per session. With Hannah Sharp, LMSW.

Refuge Counseling Center offers a sliding scale. Ask about it on the consult call.

Does this sound like you?

Christian-centered therapy is for people who are tired of splitting themselves in two to get help.

  • Two separate lives

You have a therapist who does not get your faith, or a church that does not get your anxiety, and neither sees all of you.

  • Hurt in a holy place

Some of what you carry happened in a church, a ministry or a Christian home, and you need someone who understands both the faith and the wound.

  • Looking for both

You want prayer and Scripture to be welcome, and you also want methods with evidence behind them.

Your faith sets the terms

You decide how present faith is in our work. Some people want to open in prayer. Some want Scripture on the table. Some simply want a therapist who shares their framework.

  • Say what you want faith to look like in session, and we build around it.
  • Prayer, Scripture and spiritual practices when you ask for them.
  • A therapist who will not flinch at how you make sense of the world.

The same real methods

EMDR, somatic work and attachment-based care do not change because faith is in the room. What changes is that we can talk about where God was in what happened to you.

  • Trauma processing that takes your spiritual life seriously as part of your history.
  • Room for the hard questions, including anger at God and at the people who spoke for him.
  • Relief you can feel, not just a verse to hold.

Never assumed, never pushed

If you are unsure what you believe, or your faith has been shaken by what you went through, that is welcome here too. Nothing is required of you.

  • Doubt and deconstruction are part of many people's stories, and they are safe to say out loud.
  • I will not use Scripture to direct your decisions. I am your therapist, not your pastor.
  • Every other service here is the same care without a faith component, if you would rather.

How we work together

  1. The first call

A free call to hear what brings you in and what you want faith to look like in our work.

  2. Your history, and your faith in it

We map what happened, what it left behind, and where your faith has been a comfort, a wound, or both.

  3. The work

Weekly sessions using EMDR, somatic and attachment-based work, with prayer and Scripture woven in as you choose.

  4. Integration

We check what has shifted, strengthen what you want to carry forward, and look at what it means for your life and your faith.

Questions about christian-centered therapy

Ask something else

Do I have to be a Christian to see you?

No. This is one option among several. Every other service here is the same care without a faith component, and I do not bring faith into a session unless you ask for it.

Will you tell me what the Bible says I should do?

No. I am a therapist, not your pastor. I can hold Scripture and prayer with you, and I will not use them to direct your decisions.
